Summary:
Ezra and Sabine’s relationship seen from their closest friends and family.
Hera’s POV
Hera was in the cockpit of the Ghost running her daily diagnoses when the doors opened, and someone walked inside.
“Uggh!” Sabine groaned tiredly as she plopped on the copilot’s chair.
Hera looked at the young Mandalorian girl out of the corner of her eye. “What is it now?” She asked as she continued running her diagnosis.
“It’s Ezra!” The Mandalorian said angrily.
“What did he do now?” The pilot asked.
Sabine sighed exasperatedly. “He tried to flirt with me again. It’s the fourth time this week and it’s starting to get annoying.” She said.
The Twi’lek sighed knowing Sabine was right. Ever since Ezra came aboard, he flirted with Sabine non-stop; at first, everyone thought he did it because he had been on the streets for seven years but when his flirting attempts started to get more awkward, they knew he was trying to get Sabine’s attention desperately and Hera knew it was only a matter of time before the young Mandalorian gave him a black eye.
“I’ll talk with Kanan and see if he can talk with Ezra.” The older woman answered.
“Thank you, Hera.” Sabine answered, relieved. “Do you mind if I stay here? I don’t think I can deal with Ezra right now.”
“Sure thing.” Hera said and they sat in silence for a while.
Just as Hera was finishing her diagnosis, she suddenly remembered when she met Kanan all those years ago in Gorse and all the bad pick-up lines he told her so she could get interested in him.
The Twi’lek let out a small chuckle and Sabine turned to her.
“What is it?” She asked.
“Nothing, I was just remembering when I met Kanan.” Hera answered. “And how much he and Ezra look alike.” The pilot answered.
Sabine frowned softly. “Really? How so?” She asked.
“Well, when I met Kanan…he… tried to flirt with me.” Hera answered.
Sabine’s eyes widened in surprise. “Really?”
The pilot nodded. “Yes.”
“And what did you do?” The Mandalorian asked.
“I brushed him off, of course. I was investigating a high-ranking Imperial when I met him.” She said. “But even with his flirting attempts, he was of great help while I was on my mission, and after that, I offered him to join me. The rest is history.”
“Well, at least Kanan stopped hitting on you with those lame pick-up lines.” Sabine said.
Hera chuckled. “He got better at them, to be honest.” She said.
Sabine scoffed and crossed her arms in front of her chest. “Yeah, well…I don’t think Ezra will ever change.” She said, and the Twi’lek chuckled.
“Oh, you would be surprised how much someone can change, especially when you get to know them.” Hera said.
Sabine just shook her head, and they stayed in silence.
After that, Sabine stopped going to Hera to complain about Ezra. It seemed that telling Kanan about Ezra’s flirting and talking with their youngest specter had worked because, in the following weeks, Hera noticed that he no longer told Sabine pick-up lines. He still flirted with her occasionally, but the younger teen stopped once they joined the Rebellion and once, he and Sabine started to get to know each other.
However, after the mission to Malachor and the Sith Holocron incident, the pilot noticed a change in Ezra and Sabine’s relationship.
Ezra had indeed distanced himself from the others after Malachor, but during this time, Ezra and Sabine also had become closer than before, even the young Mandalorian had become his closest confidant and both worked well as a team, this caught Hera’s attention and started to send them together in missions more often but also noticed the change in Sabine’s behavior towards Ezra.
Ezra had recently had a growth spurt and had filled out a little (Hera was proud of this, as her efforts to feed Ezra well had paid off). Also, the haircut made him look older, so the Twi’lek was not surprised when several young women in the base noticed Ezra. She also noticed that Sabine was somewhat jealous of the attention the young man had been receiving lately, so she wasn’t surprised when the Mandalorian came to her regarding Ezra again.
“Hera?” Sabine asked, knocking softly on Hera’s door.
“Come in, Sabine.” She said and the younger woman walked into her room. “What is it?”
“Can I…talk to you?” She asked.
“Sure.” The pilot said. “About?”
Sabine bit her lip, not knowing where to begin. “It’s about…I…I have a friend and she needs advice on how to tell a guy who in the past rejected his feelings now likes him.”
Hera did her best not to smile. “Oh? Since when did your friend realize she has feelings for this guy?” She asked, pretending not to know that Sabine’s feelings for Ezra had changed.
“Since a couple of months ago?” The younger woman answered nervously.
“And she’s afraid that if she tells the guy about her feelings he’ll tell her he has moved on?” The Twi’lek asked.
Sabine just nodded her head, feeling defeated.
Hera sighed and placed a hand on Sabine’s shoulder. “Listen, Sabine. My advice for your friend is this…She should be honest with him and tell him that those feelings have now changed.” She said.
“But what if he has moved on?” The Mandalorian asked.
“Well, if he has indeed moved on, she still should tell him.”
Sabine sighed. “Thank you, Hera. I-I- I’ll give my friend your advice.” She said and walked to the door.
“Sabine?” Hera called her and the younger woman looked at her over her shoulder.
“Good luck.” She said.
The young woman smiled at her before leaving.
A few days later Hera was filling out some overdue reports when Kanan walked into the cockpit of the Ghost and sat in the copilot’s chair.
“Hi, love.” Hera said when she noticed Kanan. “What’s up?”
“Have you noticed anything different between Ezra and Sabine lately?” He asked.
The Twi’lek looked through the window of the cockpit looking for their youngest specters and found them near some crates. Sabine was sitting on one of them while Ezra stood in front of her and talked to her excitedly about something.
“Why do you ask?” She asked.
Kanan shrugged. “Just…their Force signatures are brighter.” He said.
“That’s a good thing, right?”
Kanan smiled softly. “Yes, it is.” He said.
Hera smiled and looked again through the window. Her smile widened when she saw Sabine hopping down from the crate and taking Ezra’s hand before the young man leaned forward to give her a soft kiss on the forehead and they both walked looking forward to their future together.
